Reimagine SA is making a difference for the people most affected by the changing South Africa by bringing together the change agents and the establishments in the spirit of “ubuntu.”
“Ubuntu” is a Nguni Bantu term meaning “humanity”. It is often also translated as “humanity towards others,” and it has come to be used as a term for a kind of humanist philosophy, ethic, or ideology popularized by reconciliation leaders such as the Most Reverend Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela’s presidency.
Luvuyo Hlanganani Madasa (previously known as Luvuyo “Vuyo” Mandela) became the Executive Director of ReImagineSA in 2018, appointed by the CoFounder, Dr. Mamphela Ramphele, a leader, author and activist CoFounder of the Black Consciousness Movement.
Mr. Madasa is the principal director of the action arm of ReImagine with a dynamic presence in the communities where he daily opens the dialogs and seeks to bring together the different interests with the support and direction of Dr. Ramphele. He brings the theory of harmonious community growth into practice.
A youth engagement leader with numerous speaking engagements and world class recognitions to his credit, Mr. Madasa received his degree in Philosophy in 2009 at the United States based Hamilton College and returned to democratic South Africa to work implementing the more inclusive national vision.
In addition to speaking engagements internationally and in the global media, he joined the efforts of newly established companies focused on “uplift” and “empowerment” including Endeavor South Africa, One Young World, and eventually leading his own impact organization, Tyathumzi Advisory.
Working as a part of the ReImagineSA team Mr. Madasa guided the leadership in crafting the flexible tools, techniques and partnerships used in reaching the ubuntu goals in ever changing circumstances on the ground with the communities.
What Regina Mundi likes about ReImagineSA under the leadership of Luvuyo Madasa is the commitment to action, the flexibility of implementation techniques, and the continuing commitment to ubuntu outcomes without favor shown to the establishment interests.
